Do Cell phones Really Fry Your Brain?

rawad Jarvis student displays early onset of cell phone effects.

The twenty minutes left before the lunch bell don't seem to be passing. Your stomach grumbles just as you feel a strange vibration along the side of your leg. Reaching into your pocket, you pull out your palm-sized cell phone. Ah, a text message.

Inside a cuckoo's nest: life at Covenant House

Imagine that one day you wake up in the forest. You don’t know how you got there, or how you're going to get out. And nobody is there to help you.
Ths is the same way I’ve been waking up for tihe past three months, thinking, “I'm homeless.” I mean, I have a place to stay where I get fed and it’s warm, but it’s not home. Nor is it home for the other 74 street kids who live there.

TDW

It’s after school. You sit on the bus eagerly anticipating the stop to the place you call “the hood.” Scrambling out of the bus and into your cozy house, you throw your bag on to the floor and glide across the living room to the computer. You quickly type in the website address as if your life depended on it, while waiting for what seems like a lifetime. Finally you’re at ease as the letters TDW pop up on the screen. You login.

Take a break

For many of the graduating students of J.C.I., the idea of taking a year off between high school and post-secondary school is frowned upon. This so-called “gap year” is seen as an unpractical choice with no real benefits. But there are some interesting options for students during this time: to take a program, do a mix of their own traveling and volunteer work, strictly work to make money before all the expenses of post-secondary education, or relax and take a break.

Disney Racism

This summer I was extremely excited to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. However, when the 2½ hour summer blockbuster ended, I left the movie theatre unimpressed, mostly appalled by the blatant racism featured in the film.

Freedom Fighters or Terrorists?

For approximately one hundred Tamil students at Jarvis and for over 74,000,000 Tamils living around the globe it is a nightmare. Their homeland has been a killing field for the past twenty-five years.
